Matthew Burgess has announced the release of Linux From Scratch (LFS) 6.6, a free e-book that gives step-by-step instructions on how to build a base Linux system by compiling source code of the Linux kernel, GNU utilities and other basic components: "The Linux From Scratch community is pleased to announce the release of Linux From Scratch version 6.6. This release includes numerous changes to LFS 6.5 (including updates to Linux kernel 2.6.32.8, GCC 4.4.3, glibc 2.11.1) and security fixes.
It also includes editorial work on the explanatory material throughout the book, improving both the clarity and accuracy of the text."
Other important updates in this release include the GRUB bootloader 1.97.2, udev 151, Coreutils 8.4 and gzip 1.4. Read the brief release announcement and the detailed changelog for further information.
