　　nginx（发音同 engine x）是一款轻量级的Web 服务器／反向代理服务器及电子邮件（IMAP/POP3）代理服务器，并在一个BSD-like 协议下发行。由俄罗斯的访问量第二的 Rambler.ru 站点程序设计师Igor Sysoev所开发，最初供俄国大型的入口网站及搜寻引擎Rambler（俄文：Рамблер）使用。其特点是占有内存少，并发能力强，事实上nginx的并发能力确实在同类型的网页伺服器中表现较好。
　　它已经在该站点运行超过两年半了。Igor 将源代码以类BSD许可证的形式发布。尽管还是测试版，但是，Nginx 已经因为它的稳定性、丰富的功能集、示例配置文件和低系统资源的消耗而闻名了。
　　因为 Nginx 的文档大部分是俄文的，Nginx 的中文维基的目的是帮助使用中文世界的用户安装、配置和交换有关 Nginx 的使用经验。大部分文档源自Aleksandar Lazic <al-nginx AT none DOT at>的工作。有关本维基本身的问题请直接询问Cliff Wells <cliff AT develix DOT com>。
　　Nginx 可以在大多数 Unix like OS 上编译运行，并有 Windows 移植版。目前 Nginx 的开发版为 0.7.x，稳定版为 0.6.x，历史稳定版为 0.5.x，建议使用 0.6 系列作为生产版本。 Nginx 的源代码使用 2-clause BSD-like license。
　　目前中国大陆使用nginx网站用户有：新浪、网易、腾讯,另外知名的微网志Plurk也使用nginx。
改进内容：

Bugfix: nginx did not support all ciphers and digests used in client certificates.
Bugfix: nginx cached incorrectly FastCGI responses if there was large stderr output before response.
Bugfix: nginx did not support HTTPS referrers.
Bugfix: nginx/Windows might not find file if path in configuration was given in other character case; the bug had appeared in 0.8.33.
Bugfix: the $date_local variable has an incorrect value, if the "%s" format was used.
Bugfix: if ssl_session_cache was not set or was set to "none", then during client certificate verify the error "session id context uninitialized" might occur; the bug had appeared in 0.7.1.
Bugfix: a geo range returned default value if the range included two or more /16 networks and did not begin at /16 network boundary.
Bugfix: a block used in a "stub" parameter of an "include" SSI directive was output with "text/plain" MIME type.
Bugfix: $r->sleep() did not work; the bug had appeared in 0.8.11.
